I Love Fall!

Ya’ll, fall has finally made it North Texas! The cold kills my bad back but I love the changes in the trees and the quiet rain. It really makes me want to curl up with a book. What does this have to do with traveling or RV’s? Nothing. I just wanted to share my happiness! 😉

But I also wanted to share a little about why I am wanting to live that kind of life with my family. It started last year right around this time. I started to get a bit restless and then as Christmastime started to be upon us, the anxiety set in. I homeschool our boys, so we live off one income, just my husband’s. So, we struggle even during normal months. Christmas is just nothing but stressful for me. I have to figure out how to pay all of the bills and get my boys everything that they want. The materialism just kills it for me. I completely understand why the Puritans didn’t celebrate this holiday.

After Christmas, with the bills piling up, we just got further and further behind. I couldn’t deal with that anxiety any longer but I had no idea what to do about it. Then I watched a few documentaries on YouTube about people that have sold everything, bought an RV or van and just took to the road and never looked back. They all had one thing in common, they seemed so happy and free. Pretty much no one that I know feels quite like that. We are in the “real world” as they say, with all of it’s stresses and headaches. Well, I quit. I want that happiness, that freedom. It just appeals to me on such a deep level.

I also watched a documentary about Minimalism around the same time. It resonated with the way I was feeling. I immediately started researching this way of life and adapting our lives to these principles. I have downsized so much that I can’t understand how I ever lived any other way. This is definitely freeing. The more stuff you have, the more money is spent. When you need more things, you need more house. Until one day, you have this big house and you only ever use it to cook and sleep. Why not live smaller, only paying for what you absolutely need? Then you would have a savings account for a rainy day instead of credit card debt. Cuts down on the stress of paying all of those bills. “Research shows that stress can contribute to the development of major illnesses, such as heart disease, depression and obesity.” https://www.apa.org/helpcenter/understanding-chronic-stress.aspx I can say from experience that this is true. Both my husband and myself suffer from some of these things. We should be as healthy as possible so that we can be good role models for our children. So, I want to be as free from stress as possible.

I then decided that if we were going to really do this, that we should pick the most beautiful place to travel to. The Pacific Northwest it is! I have finally convinced my husband that this is the right thing for our family. It took awhile, lol. But he is sick of the stress as well. He will probably have a full time job for most of the year, but we will be in such an awesome place that we would be able to travel on his days off. I have our short term goal, save money. And our long term goal, buy the Rv and head out! Please say a prayer that we can accomplish this by the new year. We are so ready to make our dream a reality! Happy Trails!
