There are so many choices when considering escaping the rat race and downsizing. I have gone over and over them over the last year. I seriously thought about choosing a tiny home. Thought for a second about a homestead (it was a quick second, I am way too lazy ;). I kept coming back to an RV. Then I went over each type of recreational vehicle. Travel trailers are less expensive than motorized but, I was concerned about how well they were built. Also, I am pretty lazy and thinking about having to tie everything down and hitch the thing to a big truck, which we would also have to buy since ours isn’t big enough, and then take it off the hitch and level it out at a camp ground just seemed a bit much. The whole idea is for us to just get on the road and go. I feel such freedom on the road. I don’t think I would feel free if we had to do that much work just to stop for the night. So, for us, I believe that a class c will be best. A bunkhouse at that, we have 3 boys, all needing their own space.
There are a few things that I worry about on the road though, which we would face no matter what we drive. I am hoping that some of you who are pros at this can answer a few things for me. First, internet. I write and love it, so of course I need a pretty fast internet connection. I have seen on blogs of other full time rv’ers that you can purchase something to boost your signal, how much does that cost and is it really helpful? Another big concern is healthcare. We will be working but my work is basically just freelance writing and I am new at that, so I won’t have coverage and my husband will have a real job but we have no idea if he will have benefits. Is it super expensive to pay for private insurance? Or are there other options for RV’ers? Lastly, how do you get your mail? We considered a P.O. Box but will hopefully not stay in the same place.
I know it sounds like a lot but man I couldn’t care less. I want this life so badly and so does my family. We can most definitely work it out. No matter what, I can’t wait to get on the road! Happy Trails!
We’re on year 3 of our rv life full time and we have never regretted our decision
